In Russia, Impressionism had the misfortune of being overtaken by subsequent Avant-Garde in the midst of its development. Later, after the Russian Revolution, new ideology considered this positive art of light colours and fleeting moments “bourgeois” and, therefore, pernicious. But despite everything, Impressionism survived and revived. Permanent exhibition of the Museum discloses an entire history of Russian Impressionism, featuring artworks by Konstantin Korovin, Boris Kustodiev, Nikolay Bogdanov-Belsky, Valentin Serov, Igor Grabar, Pyotr Konchalovsky and many other prominent masters.
